Andy Baird

Andrew Graham "Andy" Baird II, 68, of Grand Island, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Andy was born in Ashland, Ohio, the son of Andrew Graham and Virginia (Meighen) Baird. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served as an air intelligence specialist for four years. He was honorably discharged January 14, 1972 and enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. On August 24, 1973, Andy married Susan O’Brien in Omaha. He went on to earn both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Geography, graduating in 1977. His first job out of college was with the Southern Iowa Council of Governments in Creston, Iowa as an Economic Development Specialist. Andy worked with various economic development corporations over the next years, eventually ending up in Grand Island. In 1990, Andy accepted the position as President of the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation, in which he served for 9 years. Those who will forever cherish his memory include his wife, Susan; sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Kara Baird of Omaha and Aaron Baird of New York, NY; sister, Bettie Jenks of Clinton Township, MI; sister-in-law, Beverly Baird of Johns Island, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Major Charles Baird; and sister, Patricia Smith. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
